If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably already know about my fitness journey. A big part of how I finally found consistency and success with working out is finding a program designed to fit into my schedule so I could work out in my own home. Having Roux, running a business, and trying to keep on track with nutrition and working out can get overwhelming. So being able to sign into my fitness app right on my phone helps to make things so much easier when I’m trying to juggle all the things. #momlife
If this is something you’ve been considering, but feel overwhelmed, here are a few tips that helped to set me up for success when I started my home-fitness journey!
Remember that having a positive mindset & remaining flexible will be the most important factors for long-term success.
Make a decision for when you are working out & how frequently. I find it helpful to decide on a TIME OF DAY that is best for me and how many times a week I’m going to workout. For example, 6:00 a.m., 4 days a week. Set your alarm and plan the rest of your days around this important commitment – just like you would an appointment. This is how it will become a habit and EASILY fit into your life.
Set a small & attainable health goal. Don’t set out to conquer your most challenging move or lose 20lbs immediately. Start small! Set a weekly goal for 1-2lbs weight loss if your weight is truly where you want to focus. Set a small goal such as a number of push-ups on your toes, or the distance you run before taking a break. Starting small will help you build confidence. It will prevent that negative mindset spiral that can be very discouraging in this type of lifestyle change.
Have a plan for what workout you will do each day. The worst thing for motivation is to show up without a plan, especially when you’re focusing on home fitness. I know for me, when I don’t have a plan – I spend more time trying to figure out what I’m doing for exercise than actual exercise, and that can be frustrating. I pick a LIVE workout from my interactive fitness platform or I commit to a workout program from my Fit Camp. This allows me to bring up a calendar and just push play on a pre-determined guided workout. This is a HUGE asset to forward momentum for me.
Create a space for your workout. Remember, this does not need to be a large space. You can workout outside, in your garage, in your living room, your bedroom or a spare room. Don’t overthink it – but have a designated area.
Keep your workouts fun! You can do this by inviting a friend to workout with you from time to time or asking your husband to join you. Simply being excited about the workout you’re about to do or the trainer who is going to guide you is a huge step! You do not HAVE to dread it. Music helps too!
Don’t be afraid to ask your family for support. Whether they help you to protect your workout time OR they cheer you on with encouragement – getting your family involved is such a good thing!
Start making small shifts in your nutrition habits. Remember, you do not need to change everything all at once. Make small changes. Incorporate fresh salads twice a week, replace soda with water or save the yummy treats for the weekend to start.
