If you follow me on IG, you know that last week we had our Leadership Retreat. It was our first in-person retreat in TWO YEARS. I felt so much JOY being in the room with so many elite coaches who have built incredible organizations of people who are all committed to supporting others in their health and fitness journey. Being with everyone got me reflecting on my leadership journey and what I have learned along the way. I wanted to share some tips that have helped to make me a better leader.

Integrity [do what you say you will do/do what you tell others to do]
Pay attention to the goals you have, but more importantly what those goals mean to you [do they actually mean something to you?]
Immerse yourself in teachings & tips from other leaders who have gone before you and HAVE leadership qualities that you admire.
Remember there will be ebbs & flows, lean in during the challenging seasons and focus inward on personal growth.
Be intentional about telling your team or the people you are leading what they are doing well, highlight the good, not just what needs to improve.
Create an open environment where team members feel comfortable being honest with their feedback.
Build a connection with your team – culture matters.
Be willing to give direct feedback on team member’s performance – but come with suggestions for solutions.
Learn from others [ a leader can incorporate team members’ ideas, not just yours.]
Be willing to be the backup dancer [put others in the spotlight whenever you can.]
Set boundaries & reinforce expectations. [for me, this usually pertains to my time. When I am available, how can they communicate with me, and maintain those boundaries so that you can prevent burnout.]
Be aware of the different styles of learning & accommodate those differences.
Over the past decade, I have learned so much about what it means to be a leader. These are the things that have worked for me, but I would love to hear what has worked for YOU! Let me know in the comments below! I would LOVE to hear your tips and tricks :).
