I feel like I’m always answering questions about how I got started working out, what motivates me, how do I stay consistent, etc. So I finally sat down and wrote out my entire fitness journey! I’m so excited to share this with ya’ll! Reflecting on my story makes me so grateful for this amazing community my team and I have built together. I LOVE connecting with, supporting and working out with ya’ll in our virtual Fit Camp — nothing makes me happier!
What Motivated Me To Start
It seems like forever ago, but it all started when Loren and I got married and moved to San Diego from Florida. I left my safe space and workout friends on the east coast. I went from going to boot camp and spin classes with friends after work to being home alone while Loren was in SEAL training. Or, if I was with my new husband, I was baking all the things to show my new-wife love. I didn’t have my built-in local fitness friends and I quickly found myself creating some bad habits.
The effects of my bad habits were creeping into my body [and confidence] and knew I had to make a change. Being separated from my usual fitness community, I was kind of lost. I remembered I had the P90X workout DVD I had bought off of an infomercial years ago. I attempted the program twice before and never got past the first two weeks. That bothered me — I’m not a quitter — why can’t I get through this program? I was really tired of being a quitter. Plus, the double stuffed Oreo habit was really taking its toll. I decided to commit to FINALLY finishing the program as my January 2013 New Year’s resolution.
How I Kept My Momentum
One night in early January, I was scrolling on Facebook and saw a picture my wedding photographer posted. I clicked through to the bride’s profile because the picture was beautiful and I wanted to congratulate her. No joke, the first post on her feed was her P90X transformation. I messaged her to let her know her transformation was encouraging considering I had just recommitted to my third attempt at the program. She happened to be a coach, so she invited me to join her virtual accountability group. I never knew that was a thing!
At that point, I figured I had nothing to lose — I had quit this fitness program twice before. Maybe this accountability group would help me get past my usual quitting mark. I was skeptical because I had to buy this shake but I figured nothing I was doing was working, so why not give it a shot. I knew I could get my money back, honestly, so I thought, okay – I’m willing to try. Right away – it was great. It was exactly what I never knew I needed! People were checking in daily, I got over the two-week hump and I REALLY liked the superfood shake! It was the craving control I needed to kick that double stuffed Oreo habit.
What Made Me Curious To Learn More
Behind the scenes, I was waiting for my nursing license to transfer over to California. It finally did and I started working as a nurse again, but finances were still tight. I saw there was an option for me to become a “coach” and save 25% on all my products. So I decided to sign up to save some money on the products I was loving. But I quickly became curious about the business side.
I knew that someone like me — a person who had the knowledge and resources to stay active on my own — still needed this accountability to reach my goals. And I could think of many other women in my life who would really thrive in such a supportive community online.
I started thinking about our family’s future. Loren and I were settling into our first year of marriage and the military schedule was becoming VERY obvious. If I was working as a nurse fulltime and Loren kept his crazy schedule, we would be passing ships in the night. PLUS, if we had kids they would probably be in daycare most days. Then I started to think about deployments – and I just didn’t like it.
Why I Become a Coach
I started to weigh my options. I wanted to have more flexibility in my schedule with my future family in mind – but still contribute to our little family’s finances. This home fitness program was CLEARLY working. The mission, the ecosystem they had created was WORKING. My habits and body were changing — I was becoming more and more consistent with my workouts. My confidence was back!
Less than a week into becoming a discount couch (i.e. a coach in it just for the discount on my superfood shakes!) I decided to dive in — I began to learn and share about the business. I started leading virtual Fit Camps and teaching other women how to build a business that prioritizes wellness and community. It’s now been 7.5 years!
At the beginning of my journey, I was focused on weight loss. But, more importantly, I wanted to be proud of my habits and the lifestyle I was living. Too many times, I had found myself sitting on the couch eating Double Stuffed Oreos, unhappy with how I felt and looked. I wanted to find a total health solution that was sustainable and that held me accountable.
How This Program Helped Me
These products and this community helped me lose 10-12 pounds at the beginning. Then it helped me during IVF and losing 60+lbs postpartum.
When I was making the decision to become a coach, the discount was a big deal, but I needed the accountability because of my history. I was tired of being a quitter. I knew that if one person was looking to me as their support system, I would stay accountable and not sink back into bad habits — or at least not as easily! We are all human!
I didn’t know what I was looking for when I first started this journey — I just needed to find something that was flexible, sustainable, and fun. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, though. Streaming my digital home workouts and truly learning nutrition and balance has been a life-changing experience for me and my team. This community is AMAZING and I am so blessed that I get to share my journey with all of you! AND I’m honored you trust me to guide you in Fit Camp!
